LODGE ABOUT ME PAGE
Clearing the land in ’86, with some help from some people he knew, Dan started building the lodge in ’88, Opened in July 14th 1990. Didn’t live here at first not until 1994 when the road was put in. For the first 4 years they were open there was no road and the lodge could only be accessed by helicopter, sea plane and boat. Having 3 helicopters on the lawn and a couple of boats and sea planes on the wharf looked like one helluva party/business.
When they first found the land, Dan, Sandra and their 3 kids landed the boat and while the kids ran around the beach area, Dan explored the woods to see if this was the place he would in fact build the lodge here.
Originally called boiler bay (boiler been there since the 20’s) and barge bay when a barge sunk in the 50’s, people stated calling it barge bay because the barge blocked the boiler (Dan removed the sunken barge from the area and renamed it Hidden Cove)
Working within the logging industry
Show my kids a different way of life, wanted a piece of land with a bay in it.
Living in Port Mcneill at the time. Came down the coast looking for a place to create the lodge in power boat.
First booking came in November of 1989, 5 people from France, before the lodge was even completed. The first summer they had 60 booking stay at the lodge
